NASW Board of Directors
Director, MSW Student

Laurie Webb, BA

Laurie Webb

Laurie left a lifelong career in the film industry to become a social worker. She made this transition as a means of joining her activism and deeply held beliefs with her profession.

When COVID prevented Laurie from shadowing social workers with whom she worked in a volunteer capacity, Laurie started over as a patient navigator at a federally qualified health center in her community. Three months later, she applied to the part-time master's in social work program at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

Today, she works at the same FQHC as a care manager for individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders, is a second-year master's student at UNCW and is thrilled to serve the NASW board as its MSW representative. Laurie feels that her seemingly disparate career paths are joined by a shared investment in human stories.
