Send Your Members
of Congress a TANF Holiday Card!
December 5, 2003
NASW is partnering with other members of the Coalition on
Human Needs (CHN) to inundate Senate offices with holiday messages
about the needs of TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)
recipients. Through our collective networks we hope to generate
thousands of e-mail cards asking members of Congress to: (1)
reject increased work requirements; (2) increase funding for
child care; (3) expand options for families with significant
barriers; and (4) restore benefits for legal immigrants.
We need to keep the issue alive over the holidays, since the
Senate is expected to take action on its TANF reauthorization
bill early next year. Following Senate action, the measure
would go to a House-Senate conference committee for development
of a final compromise bill. The House passed its bill in February.
(For additional details, please see NASW's
welfare reauthorization Web page.
ACTION NEEDED
Use NASW's CongressWeb to send your members of Congress a
holiday message on behalf of TANF recipients. Entice at least
five of your friends or
relatives to do the same.
If you would like to modify your message with state-specific
information, please feel free to do so. TANF fact sheets for
all 50 states are available on CHN's
Web site.
The fact sheets can be found under Issues, Welfare, Policy
Analyses, and Research.
AS ALWAYS, THANKS FOR YOUR ADVOCACY!
