STUDENT/FACULTY CALL-IN DAY TO YOUR MEMBER OF CONGRESS
NATIONAL CENTER FOR SOCIAL WORK RESEARCH
ACT
Having your social work program
make phone calls on this issue can put it on the radar screen of the
Members of Congress from your state.
The process is fast and
easy. Here is what you need to do:
- Designate one day in both
semesters that your social work education program will organize
a student/faculty call-in day to ask their Members of Congress
to support the National Center for Social Work Research Act.
- Have students and faculty
sign-up to call the Member who represents the congressional
districts in which they are registered to vote. Ask participants
to call both of their U.S. Senators and their U.S. Representative.
- Reminder e-mails to participants the day
before the call-in day can help them remember to call. If possible,
provide copies of the sample script, talking points and lobbying
do’s and don’ts.
- Your last task is to fax the
sign-in sheets back to NASW.
ANSWER will:
1. Provide
background information on the legislation for you to share with students
and faculty.
2. After
you fax the sign-in sheets back, NASW Government Relations staff
will follow-up with all legislators that were called to encourage
them to cosponsor the National Center for Social Work Research Act.
3. Your
call-in date will be displayed on ANSWER’s website, which is linked
to all of the coalition partners’ websites. In addition, any grassroots
activities that your school participates in for this legislation
will be recognized in the Ground
Action section of the website.
If your social work education
program would like to do its part in advocating for a national center
for social work research by organizing a call-in day, contact Dina
