National
Center for Social Work Research Act
Social
workers are on the frontlines everyday making a difference in people's lives.
Social workers are in the schools, communities, health care facilities, and
human service agencies, examining the inter-relationships among individuals,
families, neighborhoods, and social institutions and providing empirical support
for best practice approaches to improve service delivery and public policies.
Why Do We Need a National Center for Social Work Research?
Social Workers Need A National Research Center ! Social
work research benefits consumers, practitioners, policy-makers, educators,
and the general public through the examination of societal issues. ANSWER needs
your help to make a national center for social work research, which will collect
and disseminate results of research being conducted across the country, a reality.
For more details, please refer to the National
Center on Social Work Research page.
Strategy
The ANSWER Coalition's plan for moving this legislation through Congress is
based upon the efforts of social work schools, professors, and researchers.
It is important for all social workers to advocate on this issue, however,
social work educators should lead this effort since they conduct a high percentage
of all social work research.
During the 109th Congress, ANSWER will be working to obtain co-sponsorship
for the Senate version of the bill, which will be introduced by Sen. Inouye
(D-HI). While it is important that this bill receive bipartisan support, it
is especially vital that Republicans sign on to the bill since they currently
control both chambers.
How All Social Workers Can Help
ANSWER needs all social workers to send a letter through Congress
Web and to make phone
calls to their Members of Congress to inform them of the importance
of this legislation and to express their support.

More importantly, we need all social work education programs, educators,
researchers, and social work students to become advocates on this issue in
the Spring Semester of 2005.
