Welfare Press & Media Outreach

Welfare ReauthorizationCoverage of TANF reauthorization will continue as Congress moves towards creating legislation to continue the progress of the 1996 Welfare reform bills. In order to add NASW's concerns to the debate, social workers are urged to write letters to the editor and op-ed pieces focusing on workforce structure, work supports such as child care and transportation, and reduction of poverty while focusing on their individual communities. Included in this section are examples of letters and op-ed pieces to be used for media outreach purposes, as well as a search engine to connect you to media outlets in your area. Journalists interested in contacting social workers who are experts in welfare reform, please contact NASW Public Affairs at 202-336-8228 or email Lahne Mattas-Curry at lcurry@naswdc.org.Below are examples of op-eds and letters to the editor that can be tailored to meet the needs of the writer.
