More than 400 social work leaders came together in Washington,
D.C., March 16-18 for Social Work Congress 2005 and adopted
12 "imperatives" for the profession's future.
Co-conveners for the Congress included
the National Association of Social Workers, the Association
of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors, the Council
on Social Work Education and the National Association of
Deans and Directors of Schools of Social Work. AARP, the
Association of Oncology Social Work, the Group for the
Advancement of Doctoral Education, the Institute for the
Advancement of Social Work Research, the NASW Legal Defense
Fund, the NASW Insurance Trust, the New York Academy of
Medicine and the Simmons College School of Social Work
served as co-sponsors.
