Certified Social Work Case Manager (C-SWCM)

Specialty Certification for the experienced BSW Social Work Case Manager
Summary of Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet ALL criteria to qualify for certification

  • Active NASW membership in good standing
  • BSW degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited institution
  • 1 year (1,500 hours) post BSW paid supervised work experience
  • One of the following: NASW ACBSW credential, current state BSW-level license, if applicable, or passing score on AASSWB Basic Exam
Specialized Work Experience

1,500 hours post BSW-paid, supervised experience as a Case Manager, case management being the primary job function. These hours cannot be accumulated in less than one year or in more than five years.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Seven Core Functions (Engagement, Assessment, Planning, Implementation/coordination, Advocacy, Reassessment/evaluation, Disengagement)

Supervision
  • 1 hour supervision for every 15 hours direct client-level case management tasks
  • Supervision must be by a BSW with 5 years experience or an MSW with 2 years experience
Two References
  • 1 BSW or MSW supervisor
  • 1 BSW or MSW colleague
Grandparenting (For one year only, through 12/31/00)
  • 5-year maximum limit for 1,500 hours post BSW experience is waived.
  • “Alternate Supervision” will be accepted from approved list
  • CCM (Certified Case Manager, from Commission for Case Manager Certification) holders will be exempt from the experience requirement only
Renewal Period

Every Two years

Recertification

20 contact hours of approved continuing education. Applicant must state to which core function area the training applies.

Application Fee

$100.00

Applicants must agree to adhere to the NASW Code of Ethics , the NASW Standards for Social Work Case Management and the NASW Standards for Continuing Professional Education and are subject to the NASW adjudication process

Certified Social Work Case Manager (C-SWCM)
Social workers who hold the C-ASWCM have:
  • A current NASW membership.
  • Earned a MSW degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited institution.
  • Documented one (1) year and (1,500 hours) post MSW paid supervised work experience.
  • Provided an evaluation from an approved supervisor.
  • Provided a reference from a MSW colleague.
  • One of the following: current ACSW, DCSW, and/or a current state exam-based social work license or a passing score on the ASWB exam.
  • Agreed to adhere to the NASW Code of Ethics, the NASW Standards for Social Work Case Management and the NASW Standards for Continuing Professional Education and are subject to the NASW adjudication process.
