NASW Endorses the Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America sponsored by Catholic Charities USA

Almost half of all Americans will have experienced poverty for a year or more at some point in their lives by the time they reach age 60.  Poverty is a concern that social workers address with our clients as well as through our advocacy work.  In recognition of the importance in tackling this issue, NASW has become a partner in the Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America, an effort that is focused on reducing poverty in half by the year 2010.

The Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America was launched on January 10, 2007 by Catholic Charities USA.  This campaign is a multi-faceted, multi-year initiative aimed to educate political leaders and general public on the far-reaching impact of poverty and engage government, corporate and non-profit organizations, and individuals in implementing solutions to eradicate the social ills of poverty.  Joined by other social service organizations, advocacy groups, and concerned persons, the Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America will promote leadership, build partnerships, and seek accountability to deal with the issues facing the poor:  health care, hunger, housing, and economic security.

To find out how you or your organization can get involved, contact Monica Maggiano via email at mcastillo@catholiccharitiesusa.org or phone at (703) 549-1390.
