Anthony M. Hassan, EdD, LCSW, is the Director of the Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans and Military Families (CIR) at the University of Southern California. Dr. Hassan is a retired Air Force officer who brings 25 years of experience in military social work and leadership.  His career has been marked by exceptional administration, leadership, and innovation.

Dr. Hassan previously served as Deputy Head of the Leadership Directorate and Director of the master's degree program in counseling and leadership at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Prior to the Air Force Academy, Dr. Hassan was the CEO of the MacDill Air Force Base community mental health center which ranked #1 of 10 Community Mental Health Centers in the region for productivity and “best clinic.” Dr. Hassan has also directed several family violence, substance abuse and inpatient psychiatric programs in the United States and abroad. He served during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004 on the first-ever Air Force combat stress control and prevention team embedded with an Army unit. His unique combination of experiences contributes greatly to his success as a leader, educator, researcher, and clinician. His blend of advanced clinical practice, military experience, research, and education has clearly been recognized with over $18M in grant funding in 2009-2011.
