Survey of Social Workers Finds Families Ill-Prepared for Time, Expense, Emotional Toll of Caring for Aging Parents The first survey of social workers who provide services to sandwich generation women—women between the ages of 35 and 64 who are “sandwiched” by the needs of their children and their aging parents—found that this group, which typically shoulders a family’s caregiving burdens, is ill-prepared for the challenges of caring for older relatives. Jacks Family Tragedy Raises Concerns Among Social Workers

NASW Responds to Attacks by George Will and the National Association of Scholars
Following the release of an Oct. 14 syndicated column by George Will in the Washington Post, the NASW national and chapter offices have worked in partnership with various schools of social work to send letters to editors across the country. Four Receive NASW National Awards
NASW has announced the recipients for its annual national awards program. This year, the association is honoring a social worker who has founded organizations to help Latin American communities, a former NASW president with numerous accomplishments in child welfare initiatives, a leader in providing services to the homeless and those living in poverty and a state legislator who has steadfastly supported human rights and worked to improve the lives of his constituents.
