NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS (NASW) ANNUAL MEETING TO BE HELD IN BALTIMORE

"Strategies to Succeed in the New Market Economy"
Ronald Dellums and Tyne Daly as Keynote Speakers

WASHINGTONWith Campaign 2000 unfolding and society changing faster than ever, social workers examine how managed care, aging, privacy and technology, as well as social security and childrens mental health effect our day-to-day living. These issues will be prominent themes of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Annual Meeting.

Session highlights cover a wide range of social and mental health issues from understanding and treating shame as a driving force in excessive anxiety, the new world of living with HIV/AIDS, critical incident stress management in school settings, and healthcare in the 21st Century.

Keynote speaker Ronald Dellums, former U.S. Congressman, has been praised as one of the most compelling and articulate speakers to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to his election to Congress in 1970, Dellums had a distinguished career as a psychiatric social worker, among other accomplishments. Dellums will be opening plenary speaker.

Tyne Daly, the most honored dramatic actress in Emmy history, will speak about her role as social worker Maxine Gray on CBS Judging Amy. As this seasons top-rated new drama, Judging Amy depicts true-to-life social work realities. Daly will be closing plenary speaker at the meeting

NASW President, Ruth Mayden, MSS, LSW will brief attendees on NASWs eletoral program, focusing specifically on Campaign 2000 and the decision on who will lead our country.

Logistics

The press facilities for the meeting will be in the Baltimore Convention center. The pressroom will be open for on-site registration during each day of the meeting. Working space, telephones, fax machines and phone lines for data transmission, as well as NASW Public Affairs staff resources will be available as needed. The press area will also be the site of any news briefings held during the meeting.
