Social Workers Contributions Celebrated
March is National Professional Social Work
Month
WASHINGTON—The National
Association of Social Workers (NASW) celebrates over 100 years of professional
social work in the United States during the month of March. "Across the nation, the contributions of social workers are being recognized
by agencies, community leaders, and government officials," says NASW President
Ruth W. Mayden, "This is a wonderful opportunity for us to acknowledge work of
these excellent professional social workers—work that often is unnoticed and
overlooked. For these social workers, we take the month of March to say thank
you and to celebrate these caring and skilled professionals who have helped
individuals, families and communities throughout our country and abroad."
Social Workers have become vital contributors in our communities over the
last century. They can be found working in schools, hopitals, community mental
health centers, correctional facilites and some are even members of Congress.
Professional social workers are the nation’s largest providers of mental
health and therapy services in both rural and urban areas. Social workers
provide an important service by being able to coordinate both counseling
services with community and environmental resources.
NASW is made up of over 153,000 dedicated and committed professionals who
make a real difference in people’s lives everyday. In March, NASW celebrates
their contributions.
