Nominations Are Being Sought for the NASW Foundation International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award
WASHINGTONThe NASW Foundation is accepting nominations for the International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award. This award is
given to an individual, group or organization that has made significant national or international contributions to advance the
public image of professional social work. The nomination deadline is May 31, 2002. The NASW Foundation will present the
International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award in Washington, D.C. at a National Awards Ceremony on August 15.
The purpose of the Sarnat Award is to increase public awareness and recognition of the value of professional social work. The
winner is awarded a cash prize of $3,000, made possible from an endowment fund established by a generous contribution in 1996
from Dr. Bernard Sarnat and Mrs. Rhoda Sarnat.
Rhoda G. Sarnat is a retired clinical social worker, a former faculty member at the University of Southern California Graduate
School of Social Work, and a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), who is committed to improving the
public perception of professional social work.
Previous recipients of the Sarnat Award include Barbara W. White, PhD, ACSW, 1999, Leon H. Ginsberg, PhD, 1998, Richard Estes,
PhD, 1997, and James Midgley, PhD, 1996. The last award was presented in 2000 to licensed health care provider, Yakima Valley
Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC).
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), in
Washington, DC, is the largest membership organization of professional social
workers with 153,000 members. It promotes, develops and protects the practice of
social work and social workers. NASW also seeks to enhance the well being of
individuals, families and communities through its work and through its
advocacy.
