Social Work Student Shawn King Receives Jane B. Aron Doctoral Fellowship
NASW Foundation presents award to Ohio State University studentWashington, DC – The National Association of Social Workers Foundation is pleased to announce that Shawn King is the recipient of the Jane B. Aron Doctoral Fellowship for 2009-2010. This Fellowship Program provides partial support to doctoral students who are engaged in dissertation research in health care policy and practice.
Mr. King will explore the factors affecting health care service delivery and the subsequent impact this has for the LGBT community, specifically gay men. There has been very little research to date about health care service use among older gay men. Mr. King’s study seeks to uncover the specific barriers older gay men face when they access health care services.
This research strives to bring awareness to a unique social issue that is often ignored. By understanding the complexities related to health care services, specifically the barriers to seeking service and the increased need for service among older gay men, health policy and outreach to these individuals can be improved.
