2010 Social Work Congress to Tackle Issues Facing Fast-Growing Social Work Field
Meeting to Feature Congressional Briefing, Speeches by Authors Kirstin Downey, Daniel Brook
WASHINGTON— Employment in the social work profession is expected to grow faster than average over the next eight years. Still, the profession faces challenges, including high student debt, stagnant salaries and service funding cuts.
Members of four leading national social work associations, members of Congress, a key Obama Administration official, and two noted authors will gather in Washington, D.C. on April 22-23 to explore these issues and solutions during the 2010 Social Work Congress.
“Some of the best minds in social work will be gathering to talk about and brainstorm ways to keep our valuable profession growing and thriving well into the 21st century,” National Association of Social Workers Executive Director Betsy Clark, PhD, ACSW, MPH, said. “It is fitting that our theme is ‘Reaffirm, Revisit and Reimagine the Profession.’”
WHAT: 2010 Social Work Congress: “Reaffirm, Revisit and Reimagine the Profession”
WHO: Four leading social work associations are convening 350 social work leaders to examine challenges facing the profession and discuss how to transfer leadership to the next generation. Co-conveners are the National Association of Social Workers, Council on Social Work Education, National Association of Deans and Directors of the Schools of Social Work, and the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors. Speakers include:
