Benjamin Roth Receives the NASW Foundation 2011 Blackey Fellowship
Fellowship Helps Support Welfare Policy Research
Washington, DC-- The National Association of Social Workers Foundation announces that Benjamin Roth, a doctoral student at The University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, in Chicago, IL, has received an Blackey Fellowship for 2011.
The Eileen Blackey Doctoral Fellowship Program provides partial support to social work doctoral students who are engaged in dissertation research in welfare policy and practice. The fellowship program was established in 1987 as a tribute to Eileen Blackey, who was the Dean of the University of California-Los Angeles School of Social Welfare and a pioneer in the planning and use of staff development programs in public welfare agencies and in the U.S. Veterans Administration.
Benjamin Roth is pursuing research into the adaptation and integration of Mexican second-generation youth in the suburbs. He will focus on two Chicago suburbs in his research.
“Studying the socialization processes of Mexican youth in the suburban U.S. is a new area for social work research,” says Elizabeth J. Clark, PhD, ACSW, MPH, President, NASW Foundation. “We encourage Mr. Roth in his efforts, and look forward to his many contributions to the field.”
