Frederic Reamer Named International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award Recipient

NASW Foundation Honors Frederic Reamer for Years of Service Advancing Social Work

WASHINGTON— The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Foundation is pleased to announce that Frederic Reamer, PhD, has been awarded the International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award for his distinguished career in social work.

The International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award recognizes an individual, group, or organization that has significantly advanced the public image of professional social work. This monetary prize is made possible by an endowment fund established by a generous contribution in 1996 from distinguished social worker Rhoda G. Sarnat, LCSW and Bernard Sarnat, MD.

Frederic G. Reamer, PhD, is Professor in the Graduate Program of the School of Social Work, Rhode Island College, where he has been on the faculty since 1983.  His research and teaching have addressed a wide range of human service issues, including mental health, health care, criminal justice, public welfare, and professional ethics. He is the author of numerous books and articles, including The Philosophical Foundations of Social Work (1995), Social Work Values and Ethics (2006) and Boundary Issues and Dual Relationships in the Human Services (2012). He has been an essayist on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition (“This I Believe” series), a commentator on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, and a guest on various radio broadcasts. Dr. Reamer has lectured extensively nationally and internationally on the subjects of professional ethics and professional malpractice and liability.  He chaired the national task force that wrote the current Code of Ethics adopted by the National Association of Social Workers.

A recognized social work expert, Dr. Reamer has been called upon numerous times by media for his insights into current issues and events. He has been quoted and featured in such publications as The Philadelphia Daily News, Larry King Live, and The New York Times.
