NASW continues
to partner with the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and other
organizations to promote National Alcohol and Drug Addiction
Recovery Month (NADARM). Celebrated every September, NADARM
highlights the strides made in substance abuse treatment and seeks
to educate the public about addiction and recovery. Last year,
the Recovery Month radio tour reached more than 4 million listeners—almost
double the number in 2000. In addition, the Recovery Month Web
site logged more than half a million visitors, compared with a
little more than 100,000 the year before.
This year's celebration, Join
the Voices of Recovery: A Call to Action, focuses on amplifying
the Voices of Recovery—families, friends, treatment providers,
and others in the community who are helping people recover and
making a difference. NASW encourages members to get involved!
A series of live
Web casts and Web chats is being held monthly through September
to discuss and highlight key issues relevant to the Recovery Month
2002 observance. A schedule of all Web chats and Web casts, is
available at: http://www.health.org/recoverymonth/2002/multimedia.
To participate
in the chat, log on to http://www.health.org/recoverymonth/2002/multimedia/webchat1.html before
or during the chat time and follow the on-screen directions to
post your questions. An archived transcript will be available after
the discussion.
The Recovery
Month Kit provides fact sheets, resources, sample articles,
and event ideas for Recovery Month outreach and educational activities.
