How to Use Social Media to promote Social Work Month 2011

Twitter:

Spread the word about Social Work Month 2011 on Twitter. Use the official Twitter hashtag, “#swmonth”, in all twitter posts regarding Social Work Month 2011 so that others can find your posts.

Meet and Tweet - Groups of social workers from across the country are now organizing to “meet-up” and “tweet-up” during March 2011 to garner public awareness and support for the social work profession.   Check your chapter website for dates and times of Social Work Month events near you.

  • Tweet from the live events using the official Social Work Month 2011 hashtag (#swmonth).
  • Join the Conversation – Whether at the live event or just observing from your computer, you can use Twitter search  or Tweetscan to follow the live events and find other people who are using the official hashtag or tweeting about Social Work Month.
  • Post photos from the event to Twitter via Twitpic.  This is a great tool that allows you to take a photo with your phone or camera and upload it directly (via a shortened URL) to Twitter.  Anyone following you on Twitter will see your tweet and the link to the photo, and can click to view it.
  • Send an email to socialworkmonth@naswdc.org and tell us your twitter profile (i.e. www.twitter.com/yourprofile or @yourprofile) so that we can follow you.
Facebook:

Change your profile photo to the Social Work Month 2011 logo during the month of March.  Click here to download the official logo.

Post links to Social Work Month 2011 information and links on your Facebook Wall

Post photos of yourself at Social Work Month 2011 events and wearing Social Work Month gear.

Blog About Social Work Month 2011:

Tell others about Social Work Month 2011 and encourage them to learn more about social work on your blog.  “Live blogging” from events can create buzz and excitement for those who were unable to attend (and provide them a snippet of what they missed).   You can also post links to your blog on Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites.

Post comments on popular blog and news websites.  You can add the social work perspective to the millions of lively discussions going on online. 

Post photos on Facebook, Flickr, and other sites

Post photos of Social Work Month events you attend online and tag them with “Social Work Month”. Let everyone who attended the event know about your photos via social media and email.  You can generate interest in your event from the people who attended and those who follow them on various social media channels.
