Ways to Promote Social Work Month

Students

Research shows that early exposure to the social work profession through family and friends, community projects, summer jobs, and other positive experiences increases student interest in social work careers.  To make a difference in how young people see social workers:

  • Make a career day presentation about social work.
  • Present social work research at a local school board meeting.
  • Host a lunch for prospective social work college students.
  • Become a mentor.
  • Offer an internship to a civic-minded high school student.
  • Lead a youth enrichment or young leaders group.
  • Send schools of social work materials and videos to guidance counselors.
  • Nominate a school social worker for a community awards program.
  • Develop tips and tools for parents and teachers to help struggling teens.
  • Send profiles of outstanding social work college students to the media.
