Like most, NASW avoids a Y2K disaster.
What was expected to roar went off like a whisper as the Y2K bug that threatened to shut down major computer-operated systems throughout the world was repelled by careful planning and preventative measures.
The situation at NASW's national office was no different. Administrators had worked for months to ensure that membership services and business operations would not be adversely affected by the coming of the year 2000.
The NASW Management Information Systems Department and its Y2K consultants had predicted the association's vulnerability was limited because most of the organization's software and hardware is new as a result of a major computer network upgrade in 1998 and 1999 [September 1999 News].
The association also prepared by upgrading or removing software components that could be vulnerable to the bug and conducting numerous system tests before the century turned.
