The NASW Tennessee Chapter organized an event with Tipper Gore and Hadassah Lieberman during a series of final-hour fund-raisers for the Democratic campaign in Nashville.

Gore, Lieberman and NASW President Ruth Mayden spoke at the 125-person event, which took place at Park Center, an after-care facility for the mentally ill. Mayden underscored the commitment to advocacy that social workers and Tipper Gore have in common.

Kathy Wood-Dobbins, who chaired the event, called it "a celebration of the values that [social workers and Tipper Gore] share."

"It was also a pleasure to hear more from Mrs. Lieberman," said Wood-Dobbins. "She, like Tipper, is outstanding in her commitment to mental health."

Dave Dempsey, NASW government relations staff, said the Tennessee Chapter and Executive Director Deborah Wolkhamer did an extraordinary job organizing and staging the event. He said Gore stayed for over an hour and seemed particularly pleased and engaged to be there.
