Political Candidates Endorsed

Endorsements are based on the association's policy statements.

Political Action for Candidate Election (PACE), NASW's political action arm, has announced its second round of endorsements and contributions for the cycle leading up to the Nov. 5, 2002, election.

The PACE Board of Trustees chose to support 29 candidates with both endorsements and financial contributions, based on factors such as candidates' support of NASW's legislative priorities, their opponents' records, viability of candidates' campaigns, and NASW chapters' recommendations. Legislative priorities are based on association policy statements formulated by members at the Delegate Assembly and published by NASW Press in Social Work Speaks. PACE trustees are a volunteer group of seven association members representing the geographic regions of the country.

Senators receiving endorsements and contributions are: Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), Tom Strickland (D-Colo.), Joseph Biden (D-Del.), Richard Durbin (D-Ill.), John Kerry (D-Mass.), Carl Levin (D-Mich.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.) and John D. Rockefeller (D-W.Va.).

Those in the House are: Anna Eshoo (D-Calif., District 14), Henry Waxman (D-Calif., 30), Patsy Mink (D-Hawaii, 2), John Norris (D-Iowa, 4), Benjamin Cardin (D-Md., 3), Albert Wynn (D-Md., 4), Bart Stupak (D-Mich., 1), Sander Levin (D-Mich., 12), Bill Luther (D-Minn., 6), Martha Fuller Clark (D-N.H., 1), Frank Pallone (D-N.J., 6), Dario Herrera (D-Nev., 3), Shelley Berkley (D-Nev., 1), David Wu (D-Ore., 1), Darlene Hooley (D-Ore., 5), Lloyd Doggett (D-Tex., 10), Gene Green (D-Tex., 29), Rick Larsen (D-Wash., 2), Jim McDermott (D-Wash., 7), Margaret Workman (D-W.Va., 2) and Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis., 2).

Most candidates endorsed so far have been Democrats, but NASW-PACE contributes to both political parties, including the Republican Main Street Partnership, a group of moderate Republicans who have been helpful in advancing NASW's legislative agenda.
