From March 2002 NASW NEWS Gender violence and adolescent girls' body image will be featured. By John V. O'Neill, MSW, NEWS Staff A "PIPPAH Pack," a tool kit designed to guide social workers in creating healthy environments for adolescents, is in the preparation and design stage and should be available in late spring, according to Shelia Clark, NASW senior staff association and project manager of NASW's Partners in Program Planning for Adolescent Health (PIPPAH). The PIPPAH tool kit initially will contain material on several issues important to adolescent health: positive adolescent health status, gender violence and body image of adolescent girls. Over time, information on other important issues will be added. On the issue of adolescent girls and body image, the kit will contain suggestions on how the environment can be changed so different body shapes are accepted and good health, rather than body shape, becomes the standard. The contents of the kit will be available on NASW's Web site so they can be broadly disseminated. The kit is part of the 10-year PIPPAH grant to NASW from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau's Office of Adolescent Health. NASW is in the sixth year of the grant, having recently been awarded a grant of $500,000 for years six through 10. To reserve a kit: sclark@naswdc.org Back to NASW NEWS Contents |
