Social Work Month in Full Swing

Profiles of social workers will be on NASW's Web site.

March is Social Work Month, and NASW's national office and chapters are seizing the opportunity to celebrate the profession and let the public know what social workers do.

The national office has invited all social workers in the Washington, D.C., area to a gala March 8 to honor the hundreds of social workers employed by the federal government.

New on NASW's Web site for Social Work Month are "power profiles," short stories about outstanding social workers and social work programs. Ideas for profiles come from member tips and are pulled from stories in the media across the country. The profiles will continue to be updated "to put a human face on the profession," said NASW Public Affairs Manager Gail Woods Waller.

Also available on the Web site, www.socialworkers.org, are a Social Work Month media kit and the association's 2001 Annual Report.

Chapters holding conferences in March include Ohio, Missouri, South Carolina, Metro Washington, Louisiana, Mississippi, Pennsylvania and Arkansas. NASW Executive Director Elizabeth J. Clark will address the conferences in South Carolina, Louisiana and Pennsylvania. President Terry Mizrahi will speak at the Metro Washington conference.

Chapters in Massachusetts, West Virginia and New York State are sponsoring social work media campaigns.
