Misconduct Draws Ethics Sanction
The national NASW Board of Directors' Executive Committee in
April sanctioned Thomas Stewart Wettach based on a complaint submitted
by the association's Pennsylvania Chapter.
Wettach entered into a consent agreement and order with the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania's Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs
in which he pled guilty to several counts of corruption of minors,
indecent exposure and open lewdness.
The misconduct occurred during counseling sessions with clients.
Wettach's license was revoked, and in a separate criminal proceeding,
he was sentenced to a period of commitment in a state correctional
institution.
NASW found Wettach in violation of NASW Code of Ethics sections
1.09 (a) Sexual Relationships, 1.10 Physical Contact and 1.11
Sexual Harassment. The Executive Committee approved the permanent
revocation of his NASW membership and any NASW issued credentials
and publication of Wettach's name in "Sanctions
in Force" for 10 years.
