Ethics Sanctions Imposed, Lifted
An Iowa social worker is sanctioned for three years for ethics
violations.
The Executive Committee of the NASW Board of Directors has imposed
sanctions on an Iowa social worker for violating the NASW Code
of Ethics and lifted sanctions from two social workers who completed
recommended corrective actions.
Sanction imposed. The Executive Committee in September
approved the sanctioning of Christine Boland-Duarte of Iowa, who
was found in violation of section 1.09(c), Sexual Relationships,
of the NASW Code of Ethics.
Based on documentation from the Iowa Board of Social Work Examiners,
Boland-Duarte engaged in sexual activities and sexual contact
with a client and a former client. Her license was suspended with
no possibility of reinstatement for 12 months from the date of
the social work board's order, subject to the completion of an
evaluation and treatment plan.
The NASW Executive Committee approved the suspension of Boland-Duarte's
NASW membership and credentials for a period of three years and
publication of the findings in the "Sanctions
in Force" list for a period of three years.
Sanctions lifted. The Executive Committee lifted sanctions
from two social workers. Elyse Garrett's and Barbara Marshall's
names were removed from "Sanctions
in Force" following the Executive Committee's finding
that they satisfied the NASW California Chapter's recommended
corrective actions. Garrett and Marshall are now eligible to reapply
for NASW membership.
