  Asperger's syndrome (sometimes referred to as Asperger's) is not a new diagnosis. In fact, it was discovered in 1944 but was not officially included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) until the fourth edition (DSM-IV-TR). No doubt, this delay contributed to the misdiagnosis of many children over the years with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit with Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), autism, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and even schizophrenia.
