Cybertraps for the Young seminar will be held on May 3, 2013 from 9 am - 4 pm at Wayside Christian Mission-Hotel Louisville.

This seminar will look at the legal trouble that teens and pre-teens can get into through the use and misuse of electronic devices, and advice for parents on how to minimize the risks and protect their children. The morning session will lay the theoretical framework including an overview of technology and computer forensics while the afternoon session will focus on the practical side including types of crimes and how to work with defense attorneys.

About the Presenter:  Fred Lane is an author, attorney, expert witness, and professional speaker on the legal and cultural implications of emerging technology. After graduating from Amherst College and Boston College Law School, he clerked for two years for the Honorable Frank H. Freedman, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts. After practicing law for five years and writing his first book, Vermont Jury Instructions -- Civil and Criminal (with John Dinse and Ritchie Berger), he launched a computer consulting business that in time led to his current work as a computer forensics expert and author.

2013 NASW Ohio Chapter Advocacy Day - The Role of Social Workers in Healthcare

With healthcare reform; the push toward health homes; and accountable-care being pushed front and center, NASW Ohio Chapter invites you to the 2013 Advocacy Day to help us highlight the need for social workers in healthcare reform efforts. Participants will learn how to talk about the value of social workers in healthcare settings and then how to quantify that value to legislators when they meet with elected officials in the afternoon. NASW-VT is offering an introduction to the evidence-based clinical method of motivational interviewing (MI) on April 29^th, from 9am-4pm at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, Vermont. After orientation to the underlying spirit, structure and principles of MI, practical exercises help participants to strengthen empathy skills, recognize and elicit patient change talk, and roll with resistance. The use of client/patient assessment feedback in MI is explained. Research evidence is reviewed for the efficacy of MI and for the importance of the relationship between provider and client/patient in positive outcomes.

The course will be taught by Stephen R. Andrews, LCSW, LADC, CCS, CGP. Stephen is a consultant, trainer, and Chief Energizing Officer of the Health Education Training Institute and maintains a recovery-focused private practice in Portland, Maine, where he also facilitates a variety of groups. Stephen provides coaching and training domestically and internationally for numerous agencies, providers and groups on subjects such as motivational interviewing, addiction, co-occurring disorders and counseling theory.
