NASW Specialty Practice Section Newsletter
Author Guidelines

The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Practice Sections consists of nine specialty areas — Aging; Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs; Child Welfare; Children, Adolescents and Young Adults; Health; Mental Health; Private Practice; School Social Work; and Social and Economic Justice & Peace.

Practice Sections is committed to providing relevant and timely products and resources to our practicing social work members. We are seeking authors to write articles on topics of interest, according to the following guidelines:

Audience Information

Members of the Practice Sections are from various work settings and practice with diverse populations and cultures. Our members are knowledgeable, well-read, and often have constraints on their time. Therefore, we ask that submitted articles provide comprehensive information in a succinct manner. This should include brief vibrant paragraphs, the avoidance of jargon and overly complicated terminology, clear and concise sentences, and when necessary bulleted or listed items.

Article Information

Articles must provide information that is useful, relevant, and of interest to social work practitioners. Ideas for topics might include new practice modalities, new clinical research, case studies, or how social workers might address prominent social issues, such as recognizing traumatic brain injuries in Iraqi War veterans. Creative, evocative, and humorous yet thought-provoking content is appreciated.

Articles must be formatted according to APA guidelines, as set forth in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th edition). In-text citations must be used, with no more than five references. Resource lists may be included. Articles with footnotes will be returned for proper formatting. References and resources must be no older than five years, except in rare situations.

Article length can be 300 to 1200 words. All articles must be submitted in 12-point type, Times New Roman font, double-spaced, in MicroSoft Word (.doc) or rich text format (.rtf). Submit articles to Sections@naswdc.org

Author Information

Every article must be accompanied by the author’s full name, highest degree and any licenses or certifications, job title, and employing organization. Please indicate if the author is an MSW. An e--mail address for the author(s) must be provided for print with each article.

Example:
Marilyn K. Rosenson, LICSW, ACSW, is a clinical instructor, Department of Psychiatry, Louisiana State University Medical Center, in New Orleans. She can be contacted at mrosenson@lsu.edu.

Selection
The decision to include articles in the newsletter or in other Practice Sections products and materials is at the discretion of NASW.
