Board's Action

Context

Finances

Received financial statements as of April 30, 2013.

Treasurer Mary McCarthy reported that as of April 30, 2013, NASW’s total asset position was $17.8 million. Total expenses as of April 30, 2013, were $14.0 million, $644,000 below budget due to cost containment efforts across divisions.

Programs

Approved the FY 2013-14 program plan.

The board voted to approve the FY 2013-14 program plan. NASW operates with a yearly program plan that is linked to the budget. Using Delegate Assembly goals and imperatives approved by the Social Work Congress, program goals are developed and translated into program activities.

Approved motion related to a 2014 national conference.

The board authorized the CEO to secure a location and develop a plan for a 2014 national conference.

Governance

Approved the consent agenda.

Minutes of the April 2013 board of directors meeting and the FY 2012-13 program progress report.

Approved motion related to the Council of Chapter Executives and Council of Chapter Presidents.

To approve the chair of the Council of Executive Directors (COCE) and the chair of the Council of Chapter Presidents (COCP) be seated at the board table during board of directors meetings.

NASW Assurance Services Inc.

Approved motion related to NASW Assurance Services Inc. (ASI)

The NASW board of directors approved the election of Barbara Conniff, Deborah Reyes and Suzanne Dworak-Peck to the ASI board of directors. Conniff will serve a three-year term from 2013-16, Reyes will serve a one-year term from 2013-14, and Dworak-Peck will serve a three-year term from 2013-16.
