William Meezan, a professor of social work at The Ohio State University, is the new chair of the NASW Press Publications Committee.

NASW Press Publisher Cheryl Y. Bradley said she is looking forward to working with Meezan, who served as dean of the College of Social Work at Ohio State from 2005 to 2009.

"We are delighted to have Dr. Meezan join our NASW Press volunteer leadership," Bradley said. "We are eager to utilize his knowledge in the field of social work within the business side of publishing."

Meezan has written extensively on child welfare services, including more than 50 articles and chapters in peer-reviewed journals and anthologies. He has co-authored four books on child welfare and co-edited six other volumes.

Meezan said publishing is a critical part of the profession and the mission of the NASW Press appeals to him. He said he is particularly interested in discovering ways to improve the time between submission, review and publication at NASW Press.

"I would like to ensure that the submission and review process is electronic and more efficient than in the past," he said. "I also would like to see about the potential of producing a series that would serve both practitioners and consumers."

As chair of the Publications Committee, Meezan is responsible for maintaining and extending the knowledge of the profession through various channels. His role includes encouraging submissions of articles for all journals and manuscripts for books.

Meezan earned a DSW from Columbia University and an MSW from The Florida State University.

Prior to his role at Ohio State, Meezan was the Marion Elizabeth Blue Professor of Children and Families at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. Before Michigan, he was on the faculty of the University of Southern California as the John Milner Professor of Child Welfare. He was also on the faculty of the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Meezan has been honored for his work as well. Last year he received the Pro Humanitate Literary Award/2009 Herbert A. Raskin Child Welfare Article Award from the Center for Child Welfare Policy of the North American Resource Center for Child Welfare. In 2000, he received the Society for Social Work Research's Outstanding Research Award.

Meezan has been a consultant to numerous social agencies, foundations, schools of social work and national organizations, and has served on the boards of the Society for Social Work Research; the Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research; the Action Network for Social Work Education and Research (ANSWER) Coalition; and the Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work.
