NASW National CE Approval Program

Founded in 1955, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest professional organization of professional social workers in the world. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of our members, to create professional standards, and to advance sound social policies. To that end, NASW views continuing professional education as an essential activity to ensure quality, evidence-based, and ethical social work services for clients.

Who Should Apply for the NASW National CE Approval Program

National organizations qualified to offer continuing education (CE) programs for professional social workers are encouraged to apply to NASW’s national CE approval program.

Examples of national organizations include: national associations, national foundations, accredited universities, accredited educational institutes, and federal government agencies. National organizations must have proven experience and expertise in a specified area of social work practice and must have the organizational capacity to meet all aspects of compliance. Qualified organizations must be in the United States.

Who Should Apply for the NASW State CE Approval Program

Individuals, private practices, group practices, direct care organizations, consultants, speakers, city, county, or state-based organizations are encouraged to apply for CE approval through their NASW state chapter.

Eligible program formats include:

  • Workshops: A structured, time‑limited educational program designed to provide focused learning on a specific topic or skill area. Workshops are typically interactive and may include presentations, facilitated discussions, case studies, hands‑on activities, or skill‑building exercises. They are intended to enhance participants’ knowledge, competencies, or professional practice within a defined subject area.
  • Conferences: A multi‑session educational event that brings together participants to explore a broad theme or field of practice through a variety of learning formats. Conferences often include keynote presentations, concurrent sessions, panels, and networking opportunities, and may span one or more days.
  • Symposia: A focused educational event centered on an in‑depth examination of a specific issue, emerging topic, or area of research. Symposia typically feature expert presentations, scholarly discussion, and facilitated dialogue rather than broad programming.
