Chapter Membership

Your NASW membership includes membership in NASW National and in your NASW chapter, at no additional cost. Your NASW chapter is your go-to resource for what's happening in the profession locally. Get involved in NASW activities and leadership opportunities where you live. Your chapter can help with licensure support, such as exam preparatory courses and CEs for licensure renewal. Specialty Practice Sections

Focus your professional development by adding an NASW Specialty Practice Section to your NASW membership. Select from 11 specialty areas, such as Aging, Private Practice, School Social Work, and Social and Economic Justice & Peace. Stay current on trends, treatment strategies, policies, and social work issues affecting your practice area. Earn 45+ CE credits FREE every year through Specialty Practice Sections (SPS) educational opportunities. As a bonus, SPS members can participate in their Section’s MyNASW online community, at no extra charge:

  • Children, Youth, and Schools is exclusively for members of the School Social Work; Child Welfare; and Children, Adolescents & Young Adults Specialty Practice Sections.
  • Clinical Social Work, Aging, and Health is exclusively for members of the Aging; Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs; Health; Mental Health; and Private Practice Specialty Practice Sections.

SECTION FEE: SPS membership costs $40/Section per year—about the same as what one CE course costs elsewhere. You must be a current NASW member to join a Section.

Credentials and Specialty Certifications

Gain recognition for your professional achievements and unlock new career paths! NASW credentials and specialty certifications signify that you have met the highest national standards developed in the social work profession and have experience and supervision working with certain populations. A credential is a voluntary pursuit beyond your social work degree and your state license, which regulates practice and protects the public. Earn NASW specialty credentials in addictions, case management, gerontology, school social work, health care, hospice and palliative care, youth and families, and military social work. NASW members save more than $280 on the initial specialty certification fee and up to $300+ on the renewal certification fee.

An Hour With Private Practice

Get updates in clinical social work affecting the delivery of mental health services in a private solo or group practice. An Hour With Private Practice (HOPP): Questions & Answers is a free members-only question-and-answer session for private practitioners. Sessions take place by Zoom on the third Friday of the month, 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. ET. Log in with your NASW username and password to access the Zoom meeting schedule and to register for sessions. You also can access past sessions and handouts.
