NASW Mississippi Chapter Denounces Violence Committed Against Beth Israel Congregation

PEARL, MS - The National Association of Social Workers Mississippi Chapter (NASW-MS) opposes the violence against Beth Israel Congregation, and we join with Jackson Mayor John Horhn, local organizations, and congregational leaders to issue a statement against religious hatred and violence in all communities.

We stand in solidarity and with a collective voice to say that this type of violence will not be tolerated. NASW-MS Chapter will challenge injustice, including violence and hatred. As professional social workers, we are committed to respecting the dignity of everyone.

NASW-MS affirms that all people have the right to worship, live, and be respected in the spaces where they worship. Antisemitism and violence are unacceptable, and we are opposed to any form of violence that infringes upon the people and communities we serve.

Beth Israel has always been a positive prescence in its community, providing services to all who are in need. To the families, friends, and worshippers of Beth Israel, we decry yet another act of hatred in your place of worship. It is distressing that you are a target of hate. We must all join in arms, advocate, and speak up and out now!

This tragic act of violence against the Beth Israel Congregation serves as a painful reminder that religious hatred and antisemitism continue and there is an urgent need for collective action to end it. By taking a clear and public stand, NASW-MS proclaims that silence is not an option in the face of injustice. We believe NASW-MS has a critical role in advocating against antisemitism and all forms of hatred and upholding  dignity, justice, and human rights.
