SPS Administration/Supervision: In Challenging Times, It’s Necessary to Have a Plan

SPS Updates

person standing before group giving a lecture In politically charged and changing times, an administrator’s role is to ensure information is clear and comprehensive, says Gigi Tsontos, LCSW, MPA, PCC.

“Your planning and risk assessment are vital to ensuring the efficacy of the organization,” Tsontos says. “You are not alone. Lean in and create space for yourself and the organization to thrive.”

Historically, social work professionals are comfortable adapting to new challenges, Tsontos says in the latest Section Connection newsletter for the NASW Specialty Practice Section on Administration/Supervision.

“We think outside the box, we prepare and have backup plans and ideas, and sometimes we adjust in the moment,” Tsontos points out. “Those skills are invaluable in the current political climate.”

Now that we are in a new and ever-changing political climate, where do we go from here? Tsontos says.

“By staying informed, understanding when to make a change, and understanding what the changes are,” says Tsontos, executive director of Not One More Vet Inc. “It is incumbent upon the profession to do so with authority rather than react to an unknown, and if these tactics are to work, our organizations, administrators, and teams need a guidepost. The organization’s mission and strategic objectives can point the way.”
