Resources Aid Social Workers in Honoring Older Americans
Practice
May was Older Americans Month and the NASW practice team prepared an announcement that includes resources and important laws relevant to this population. In a Tips & Tools post, NASW Senior Practice Associate Chris Herman highlighted the numerous federal policies and programs that have enhanced the health and well-being of the aging population since President John F. Kennedy issued a 1963 proclamation establishing May as “Senior Citizens Month,” which subsequently became known as “Older Americans Month.”
The resource is relevant throughout the year and emphasizes that “fostering health and well-being as we age (and, indeed, at all phases of life) is a collective responsibility.”
