The editors-in-chief of NASW journals are launching a “How to Publish in the NASW Journals” campaign in 2026 to support social work professionals and students in publishing.
The NASW Press journal portfolio includes Social Work, Children & Schools, Health & Social Work, Social Work Research, and Social Work Abstracts.

Building on a successful 2025 conference session, the editors created Ten Practical Tips for Publishing, which will be featured in editorials throughout early 2026 in NASW journals, says Kevin Tan, PhD, MSW, associate dean and associate professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign School of Social Work.

The tips cover: starting out, collaboration, leveraging references, finding partners, defining your audience, knowing research gaps, linking to trends, choosing outlets, exploring dissemination options, and perseverance.

The campaign aims to raise awareness, dispel myths about publishing, and encourage contributions in various formats, like research articles, practice highlights, letters, and editorials, Tan says. Social workers are urged to share knowledge to advance the profession, with all interested authors and peer reviewers invited to contact the editors-in-chief. They are:
