EP138: Social Workers, Investment Funds & Evictions Avoided

NASW Social Work Talks Podcast

Social Workers, Investment Funds & Evictions with Joslyn Berndt managing partner JLB holding

In this NEW episode of Social Work Talks, host Elisabeth Joy LaMotte sits down with investor and philanthropist Joslyn Berndt to discuss how social workers are playing a unique role in an innovative approach to housing stability and crisis intervention. In 2017, Berndt launched the CARES program in collaboration with the University of Texas Steve Hicks School of Social Work. The program embeds social workers inside a real estate investment firm, empowering them to help residents navigate crises, access resources, and avoid eviction whenever possible. By integrating social work principles into property management, CARES strengthens communication between landlords and residents while creating more humane and effective solutions during difficult circumstances.
