On June 8, 2026, the Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare (CAQH) announced that CAQH is now DataSpring, powered by CAQH.
What Clinical Social Workers (CSWs) Should Know
For the past 25 years, CAQH has served as a free provider credentialing database for CSWs who want to panel with multiple insurance companies. With the transition to DataSpring, the website will continue to allow CSWs to share their self-reported professional information with authorized insurance companies at no cost.
CSWs with a CAQH profile should know the following:
- Their CAQH number remains the same.
- Once signed in, the website’s functionality and user experience remain the same.
- Profiles and other required documents can still be updated.
- An attestation must still be completed every 120 days.
CSW Concerns
DataSpring is a for-profit organization owned by commercial insurers. As such, some NASW members have expressed concern about who will have access to their data and how it will be used. There is additional worry that insurance companies will prioritize their own interests over the needs of providers, rather than acting as a neutral collaborator between individual clinicians and authorized health plans, as CAQH previously did.
At this time, NASW is unable to validate these concerns but will monitor the situation for potential problems. If CSWs begin to experience changes to their credentialing, attestation, or general profile management, please let NASW know by emailing Clinical.Practice@socialworkers.org.
