Nursing homes are important resources for individuals, families and communities, yet the federal government estimates that unless things change dramatically, the country is headed for a shortage of social workers educationally prepared to work in long-term care settings with frail older adults. Skilled and motivated social workers are needed in nursing homes more than ever. Social work skills can help transform a nursing home into a more person-centered setting where residents thrive, not just survive. Social workers also contribute to a supportive social environment for residents approaching the end of life. This webinar provides an overview of the changing role of nursing homes in America and the role of the social worker within the nursing home. We conclude with challenges and opportunities for nursing home social workers.
1 Social Work Catergory CE will be provided.
