What is the Member Referral Campaign?
The Member Referral Campaign seeks to acknowledge and reward our most committed regular members and ask them to help us identify and recruit to NASW other like-minded social workers who care about the good of the profession and can make our advocacy voice louder.
When can I refer someone?
We always appreciate committed members encouraging friends and colleagues to join NASW, but during the Member Referral Campaign, we’re offering special acknowledgement and incentives for you and a free Specialty Practice Section to each eligible prospective member you invite who joins or reinstates as a regular NASW member between July 1, 2019, and October 31, 2019.
Who is eligible to refer members in the Member Referral Campaign?
Current regular NASW members may refer eligible prospective members to join or reinstate as a regular NASW member.
Who is eligible to be referred?
Eligible prospective members qualify for regular NASW membership (DSW/PhD, MSW or BSW) and have never been an NASW member or have not been an active member since 2017 or before. We’re delighted to welcome members of all types, but only regular members are eligible for this campaign.
Why can’t I refer a student, transitional or retired prospective member in this campaign?
NASW welcomes members at all stages of their social work career and already offers discounts to those at the beginning and end of their careers. Students receive a deep discount, up to 75% off regular dues, so please encourage students to join at student pricing and maintain their membership as new professionals, to benefit from discounts while in school and in their first years after graduation as transitional members. Only current student members are eligible to receive discounted transitional membership after graduation, and only current regular members are eligible for discounted retired dues, so those rates are not available to non-members who join or reinstate.
How do I refer someone?
Call, text or write to invite social work friends or colleagues to join NASW or reinstate their membership. Share your experience and let eligible prospective regular members know we need them to join to help us advance and protect our profession. To help you get started, check out these samples:
Can I refer more than one prospective regular member?
Yes! We’re asking you to help us reach one additional member before NASW’s 64th anniversary in October 2019, but the more eligible prospective regular members you recruit, the more incentives you can earn and the more we can accomplish together for the profession.
How can I earn an incentive?
Refer an eligible friend or colleague and complete the member referral form to let us know whom you referred and select your desired reward. The prospective member you referred must join or reinstate as a regular NASW member by October 31, 2019, and must not have been a member since 2017, for you to receive your selected reward.
What are the incentives for referring a prospective regular member?
The incentives for referring are your choice of one of the following rewards for each referred eligible member who joins or reinstates as a regular NASW member between July 1, 2019, and October 31, 2019:
How many incentives can be redeemed?
The number of incentives you can redeem is equal to the number of eligible prospective members you refer who join or reinstate as a regular NASW member between July 1, 2019, and October 31, 2019. You must complete the member referral form
for each prospective member to claim your reward. Surprise gift boxes and NASW Press eBooks are available while supplies last.
When will I receive my incentive?
NASW will fulfill your selected reward within six weeks after your eligible referral joins or reinstates as a regular NASW member.
How will I receive my incentive?
Delivery depends on the incentive you choose.
- If you choose a Specialty Practice Section, you will be notified via email once it is activated.
- If you choose Social Work Online CE Institute credit or NASW Press eBooks coupon, you will receive the coupon via email.
- If you choose a surprise gift box of Elevate Social Work merchandise, or selected NASW Press book, it will be shipped to the address you provide when completing the member referral form.
What if the prospective regular member I refer does not join or reinstate?
You will receive an incentive only if the eligible prospective member you referred joins or reinstates as a regular NASW member, but even if they do not, we’d like to acknowledge your commitment to NASW. When you complete the member referral form, we’ll ask for your permission to recognize your participation on the public campaign website. If you’d prefer, you may choose not to be recognized publicly.
