Ethical Standard of the Month: 6.04 Social and Political Action

Overview

The final section of the NASW Code of Ethics addresses social workers’ responsibilities to the broader society. Changes to this section were limited to standard 6.04(d), Social and Political Action.

Highlight

The word “disability” was changed to “physical ability” to be consistent with the previously referenced revision to standard 2.01(a). “Social workers should act to prevent and eliminate domination of, exploitation of, and discrimination against any person, group, or class on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, political belief, religion, immigration status, or mental or physical ability.”
