Moral Injury & Moral Distress occur when individuals violate or witness violations of deeply held values and beliefs. While these phenomena have been long studied in military and health care workers, examining Moral Injury in the context of other roles, like social work, is a new and emerging inquiry. In this interactive, 90-minute workshop, Cassie Gillespie, LICSW will define, unpack, and explore Moral Injury & Moral Distress, and their unique presentation and impact across social work settings.

About the Presenter

Cassie Gillespie, LICSW is a full-time faculty member in the University of Vermont’s Social Work Department, and the host of the SOCIAL WORK LENS podcast. Cassie also provides training, coaching, & consultation to individuals & organizations experiencing chronic workplace stress and workplace trauma. Cassie works with helping professionals of all types including social workers, legal professionals, mental health & medical providers, conservation staff, educators, librarians, and government professionals; and in settings ranging from small organizations to national nonprofits, and governmental agencies.
