Chats with Chase – Social Work Response to Climate Change

Join us for a Facebook Live with climate change experts to discuss how global warming is affecting our nation, what social workers should know about this issue, and how they can respond. NASW President Dr. Yvonne Chase will talk about the issue with:

 

Ben Fulgencio-Turner is the director of the Climate for Health program at ecoAmerica. The program is a national initiative to build climate leadership and action in the health sector.

 

Dr. Kriti Vashisht, Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Dr. Vashisht is an expert at using community data to set solid ground for the crucial role of mental health in the global development agenda, especially concerning migration, climate change, and sexual and reproductive justice. She has also studied the effects of climate change in India.

 

Sheetal Khedkar Rao, MD is an internal medicine physician, an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine and an Adjunct Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health at the University of Illinois Chicago. Dr. Rao sits on the steering committee of Illinois Clinicians for Climate Action (ICCA) and is a 2024 Public Voices Fellow with The OpEd Project.

 

Karen Magruder, DSW, LCSW-S, is a clinical social work supervisor and an Associate Professor of Practice at the University of Texas at Arlington School of Social Work, where she created a course on environmental justice and green social work. She is a member of the Council for Social Work Education (CSWE) Council on Environmental Justice and Human Rights.
