What is the Member Referral Campaign?
During the Member Referral Campaign, committed NASW members are inviting their social work friends and colleagues to join the association and strengthen the profession. Together, we can make our advocacy voice louder to elevate social work and make a bigger impact for the communities we serve. Plus, we’re offering each eligible prospective member a free Specialty Practice Section when they join or reinstate as a regular NASW member during the campaign.
When can I join or reinstate as a regular NASW member to receive a free Specialty Practice Section?
During the Member Referral Campaign, NASW is offering a free Specialty Practice Section (SPS) to eligible prospective members who join or reinstate as a regular NASW member and complete the referred member form to claim their choice of SPS between July 1, 2019, and October 31, 2019.
Who is eligible to be referred?
Eligible prospective members qualify for regular NASW membership (DSW/PhD, MSW or BSW) and have never been an NASW member or have not been an active member since 2017 or before. We’re delighted to welcome members of all types, but only prospective regular members are eligible to receive a free Specialty Practice Section during the campaign.
How can I join NASW?
There are a number of ways to join NASW:

- Mail the membership application and your dues payment to:

- If you already have a non-member customer account, please call NASW Member Services at 1-800-742-4089 Monday through Friday 9 am – 9 pm ET, and they can assist you with converting your free non-member customer account to a paid membership.
I’m a former member. How can I reinstate my NASW membership?
You may reinstate your membership online at https://www.socialworkers.org/reinstate by entering the email address associated with your prior membership record. You may also call NASW Member Services at 1-800-742-4089 Monday through Friday 9 am – 9 pm ET to reinstate over the phone or to request an invoice.
What is the incentive for joining or reinstating during the campaign?
For joining or reinstating as a regular NASW member and completing the referred member form between July 1, 2019, and October 31, 2019, eligible members receive the Specialty Practice Section of their choice, a $40 value, free during their first year of NASW membership.
What are NASW Specialty Practice Sections?
NASW Specialty Practice Sections (SPS) help members stay in-the-know in their specific area of practice and offer individual online communities of committed, like-minded peers. Along with the trusted communities, SPS offers more than 45 free CE opportunities through live practice-specific webinars, newsletters, on-demand continuing education courses, and other professional development activities. There are 11 sections covering various areas of social work practice.
How do I notify NASW I was referred and claim my free Specialty Practice Section?
After joining or reinstating as a regular NASW member via the referral campaign, complete the referred member form by October 31, 2019, to let us know who referred you and to select your free Specialty Practice Section.
When will I receive my free Specialty Practice Section?
Your Specialty Practice Section will be activated within two weeks after you join or reinstate as a regular NASW member and select your preferred section.
How will I receive my Specialty Practice Section?
Eligible members will receive a welcome email with links at the email address associated with their membership when their Specialty Practice Section has been activated.
