Money Mindset: Taking Care of Our Mind, Body, and Bank Account

NASW New York State

5-6 p.m.

Social workers must invest in themselves before they can invest in their clients and communities. This Chapter Chat will help social workers to develop a deeper understanding of financial literacy, the key components of an individual's “money mindset” and how these impact overall health. Led by Corinna Espino, MSW and mental health professional, Sascha Owens, a holistic wellness educator, and Jasper Smith, a financial educator, the workshop is strength-based, evidence-based and rooted in person-in-environment theory/perspective. The facilitators connect financial wellness to holistic care models and equitable practices including the introduction of the core principles of financial wellness, the key components of building positive financial habits, and incorporating financial wellness as a piece of whole-person care. Participants acquire tools and activities to understand their client’s financial past, present and future and the emotions behind money. The conversation will be helpful for social workers service to their communities as well as learning strategies to strengthen their own money mindset.
