Politics for Social Workers: Practical Strategies for Policy Change

NASW New Hampshire

9-11 a.m.

Learning Objectives
Building off of some two decades teaching policy and advocacy to social work students and practitioners and drawing from Dr. Stephen Pimpare's new book, Politics for Social Workers, this workshop is designed to help participants think more critically and more realistically about the obstacles to effecting policy change on behalf of their communities and their clients and then to develop smart strategies to succeed nonetheless.

This workshop will help participants:
  1. identify the issues that matter most to them;
  2. determine where they have leverage or power and where their participation is most likely to achieve results;
  3. build upon a critical, realistic understanding of the challenges to political and policy change; and
  4. start to design a practicable plan for action.
