Message from NASW CEO Angelo McClain on Resignation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy
We knew it was coming, but
Justice Anthony Kennedy’s announced retirement was a shock and a stark reminder
that the future of our democracy lies in the ballot box. National Association
of Social Workers (NASW) voter engagement work is critical and vital to
empowering folks from all walks of life. We know that our activism in the
political arena is difficult work. I want you to know that NASW is
working with coalitions to demand that the nomination of the next justice be
delayed until after the mid-term elections; and working to assure that the nominee
isn’t an ultraconservative. There’s much work to be done. We will stay
the course, because we believe that social work values and principals are needed in all aspects of politics.
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), in Washington, DC, is the largest membership organization of professional social workers. It promotes, develops, and protects the practice of social work and social workers. NASW also seeks to enhance the well-being of individuals, families, and communities through its advocacy.
