NCNLI Complaint Process

The National Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identification (NCNLI) is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the national election and campaign processes.  To do so, it monitors the campaign and investigates reports of alleged violations of the campaign rules and procedures.  It also monitors activities of units of the Association to ensure the rules are consistently applied.  

  

What is a complaint?

A complaint is the reporting of an alleged violation of campaign rules and procedures to the NCNLI.  When a complaint is filed, it initiates an investigation by the Election Practices Subcommittee (a subgroup of NCNLI).

To file a complaint:

  • You must be an NASW member
  • Submit a complaint form

What happens next?

Within 7 days of receipt:

  • The NCNLI Chair and staff are notified
  • The Election Practices Subcommittee reviews the complaint

Within 2 weeks of receipt:

  • If a violation has been occurred, the respondent is notified and is provided a process for handling the complaint.
  • the Subcommittee provides its findings and recommendations to the NCNLI
  • The decision of the NCNLI is communicated to the President
  • Any recommended sanctions will take effect unless either party

Final Steps:

  • The decision of the NCNLI is communicated to the President by the NCNLI Chair and the President or the CEO communicates NCNLI’s decision to the parties involved.
  • Any recommended sanctions will take effect unless either party (complainant or respondent) chooses to file an appeal with the Executive Committee.
